Students of Dawood University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi built a prototype of a robot that can work wirelessly with hand gestures. The robot is controlled by the device called Leap Motion. Students, belonged to the department of Computer Systems Engineering of the university, said that they worked on the interfacing of the Lego Minstorms robot with the device wirelessly.
The students also claimed that they can they can also make robots that can help Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) to diffuse bombs from distant location so that human life can be saved.
This prototype of robot was shown in a live TV show known as “Chai (Tea) Time” on Jaag TV.
The teachers emphasizes that Pakistani students are no less than anyone. They also said that if the government and local industry helps the students they can attitudinize their skills. The teachers also elaborate why these type of prototypes are made and why they are focusing on technology related to robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The students also described some of their projects that are under development. These projects mainly focuses on issues that are national rather than consumer based. The projects include Virtual Reality based Rehabilitation Center so that different type of patients can be cured by using the technology.
Another project is under development to solve the issues that are faced in industries due to disturbances in Power Quality. The students told that their project will work on AI in real time to ensure the Power Quality that can not done manually.
