Despite the chilly wind and cold rain that came down on activists at the Federation square in Melbourne today hundreds of activists turned out.
The rally was organised by Kashmiri supporters in Melbourne against the amendment to Indian constitution to remove article 370 & 35A. The removal of these articles from Indian constitution enforces Indian occupation of Kashmir. This move will enable Indian occupation to push
Hindutva agenda in Muslim majority valley of Kashmir.
The rally participant holding placards, the protesters raised anti-Modi, anti-Occupation and anti-Indian placards as they marched from Federation square to State Library of Victoria in Melbourne CBD. One participant said “There is reason to fear for the safety of every Kashmiri in India”
Several Kashmiri students said they had not been able to speak to their families for a four straight day due to the communication blackout.
As grassroots protests occur all over the world and in Australia, it’s clear that the Kashmiri are fed up with Indian occupation in the valley.
A number of Skih community also came out in Melbourne to support Kashmiri people. Sikh also struggling against what they see as Hindu fascist agenda being push in their home state of Punjab. They also want a separate land “Khalistan” free from India. Sikh have been struggling soon after the independence of India from Birtish in 1947.
Rally organisers hope to bring attention of general public in Australia to Indian occupation and brutality of its forces in occupied Kashmir. They have been locked up for last 5 days since the curfew was imposed.
