Australian men’s hockey team defeated Pakistan by 9-1. It was the worst ever defeat for Pakistan on Australian soil.
Pakistan’s only goal was scored by Qadir Muhammad Salam, but Australia immediately responded two more on top of earlier score of two which increased Australia lead 4-1.
Arunasalam, Melbourn based first Malaysian origin player for Australia scored sixth goal after Kleinschmidt’s Excellent play, with Govers grabbing two final quarter goals to complete his hat-trick. Wickham also got the scoresheet.
It was worst performance of Pakistan but Pakistani captain Mohamnad Irfan defended green team by stating that his boys did not get enough time to rest and practice.
He said that they just landed yesterday and most of the the team was still in jet leg and tired. He also stated that it is relatively young team and there were 6 debutend players, when you factor all these issue you will get the results as we got today. However he is not willing to accept that his boys did perform poorly.
