Dr Adeeb Rizvi
KARACHI: Dr Adib Rizvi of Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) was on Saturday conferred with confer honorary fellowship of prestigious American College of Surgeons for his distinguished services in the field of surgical sciences, public services and also for pioneering the transplant movement in his country.
Rizvi received the honour at the annual congress of the College held at Washington DC, according to a press release issued by SIUT. He is one of the five eminent surgeons hailing from various parts of the world who have made extraordinary contributions in their respective branches of surgery. The globally renowned surgeons who received the fellowship were from Australia, Colombia, France and Japan.
The College recounted the meritorious services rendered by Rizvi by setting up SIUT in Karachi, which not only provides state of the art medical treatment to the people completely free of cost, but is also one of the growing urological and transplant centers of the region. Rizvi was also lauded for his efforts in bringing a legislation that prohibits commercial transplantation in Pakistan.
The American College of Surgeons, established in 1903, is the largest professional organization of surgeons in the world with some 80,000 members on its roll.
Each year a group of globally renowned surgeons are awarded Honorary Fellowship. The process is quite selective and competitive as in its entire history the College has awarded honorary fellowship to 445 surgeons.
